When You Feel Numb, Disconnected, or Like You’re the Problem
Do you feel like you’re just going through the motions?
Do you feel numb, heavy, or like you’re moving through fog?
Have you lost interest in things that used to matter—or in people you love?
Do you find yourself thinking, “What’s wrong with me?”, but feel too ashamed to say it out loud?
Depression isn’t just sadness.
Sometimes, it’s the absence of feeling altogether.
It’s the belief that you’re too much, not enough, or fundamentally broken.
It’s not just low mood. It’s a full-body shutdown.
A state where everything slows, softens, disappears—and so do you.
This isn’t laziness. It’s not weakness.
It’s your nervous system doing what it had to do to survive.

Depression Is a System Collapse—Not a Character Flaw
This is the dorsal state of the nervous system.
Not fight. Not flight. But freeze. Shut down. Disappear.
Maybe your system was on overdrive for too long—constantly performing, showing up, pushing forward.
Eventually, it said: Enough. I can’t keep going.
That’s what depression is. Not giving up—but being taken over by the belief that nothing you do will matter.
It’s not in your head. It’s in your body.
And it’s trying to keep you safe.
You might notice:
Exhaustion that no amount of sleep fixes
Feeling detached from your life, relationships, or body
Going quiet—even when you long for connection
Deep shame: I’m too much. I’m not enough. I don’t belong.
A quiet, desperate thought: “I can’t live like this.”
When your nervous system drops this far down the ladder, everything becomes effort.
Even hope.
What Depression Can Look Like—For Women and Men
For many women, depression looks like the fawn response. You keep saying yes, keep performing, keep holding it all together—but inside, you feel erased. You don't speak your truth because somewhere you learned that your truth wasn’t safe. You keep giving even as you fade.
For many men, depression turns into emotional shutdown. You feel distant, numb, or ashamed. You may not call it depression—but there’s a heaviness, a sense of collapse, and a quiet voice inside that says, “Why bother?”
This isn’t your fault.
This is your system’s last-resort strategy.
And underneath it all, there’s still life. Still you. Still hope.
What Depression Therapy Can Look Like
This isn’t about pushing through.
It’s about learning how to slowly come back to yourself—without force, shame, or pressure.
Together, we’ll explore:
How your system entered shutdown—and how to safely begin moving out
The beliefs that took hold in that dark place—and how to gently loosen their grip
How to reconnect to yourself, your relationships, and your sense of aliveness
How to meet shame not as truth, but as a signal for compassion
How to remember that you are not the problem—you’re the one who lived through too much, alone
There’s no rushing this, but it’s possible. And you don’t have to do it alone.
My Approach To Depression Therapy
I don’t treat depression as a disorder—I treat it as a response. A wise one. A tired one. A deeply protective one.
The foundation of my work is Interpersonal Neurobiology—the science of how our minds, bodies, and relationships are all part of how we survive and how we heal.
Depression is what happens when your system goes quiet to stay safe. The goal isn’t to perform your way out. It’s to restore connection gently— from the inside out.
I’m trained in:
Interpersonal Neurobiology (IPNB) – for integrating mind, body, and relational healing
Polyvagal-Informed Therapy – to understand your unique nervous system and how it protects you
Somatic Experiencing (SE) – to gently release stored trauma from the body
Attachment-Informed Therapy – for understanding your patterns of connection and trust
Internal Family Systems (IFS) – to help the parts of you that had to take over to feel supported
Relational Repair & Embodied Connection – trauma often happens in relationships—and healing does too
There’s no need to perform in here.
You get to arrive as you are—whatever that looks like.
You Might Be Wondering About Depression Therapy…
-
Because your system learned early on that connection wasn’t safe or consistent. That changes slowly—with care.
-
You’re not. Your system is shut down, not broken. Healing starts by meeting that truth with tenderness.
-
That’s okay. You don’t have to believe it yet. I’ll hold that hope until you’re ready to feel it.
You Don’t Have to Disappear to Survive
